Frequently Asked Questions
How long will the entire dressmaking process take?
The time the process takes depends on the complexity of the garment, the fabric source and availability and how many fittings are needed. For bridal gowns expect between 4 and 10 months. All other dresses expect at least 3 months.
Should I bring anything to the initial design consultation?
Bring any photos of dresses or details that you like or that represent your style. You can share your Pinterest boards on the computer or iPad here.
How do we choose fabric?
We will work together to decide what fabric would look the best and what is suitable for your design. There are samples and swatches of different types and colors of these fabrics in my studio for you to browse. If you are looking to match a specific color please bring in a sample of the color.
What do I need to bring to my fittings?
You will need to bring the undergarments and shoes that you plan on wearing with your dress. It is okay if you don't have your shoes the first fitting or two, but the undergarments are necessary. These are important to making sure we get an exact fit and dress length.
If I have my mother’s or grandmother’s dress and want to incorporate part of her dress into my dress can we do this?
Absolutely! Adding some lace from your mother’s dress or the flowers from your grandmother’s dress is a special way to honor them and we are thrilled when we get to take part of her dress and turn it into something special for your wedding. We can even transform their dress into yours.
How many fittings will there be?
There are usually four to five fittings. A consultation, a sample dress fitting, and two to three fittings in your dress. For more information see The Process.
